Rows Of Codes Used During Extortion Of KPK Detention Centers: Floods, Bird Cages To Corn Food

JAKARTA - Director of Investigation of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Asep Guntur Rahayu revealed that there are a number of codes used in the practice of illegal levies (extortion) in detention centers. Among them are bird cages and corn feed for financial transactions.

This was revealed by Asep after announcing 15 people were suspects in extortion at the KPK Detention Center, one of which was the Head of the KPK Detention Center Achmad Fauzi and Hengki, the former Kamtib Rutan.

"In launching the action using several terms or passwords, including floods, meaning inspection info, bird cages and corn feed, it means money transactions, and bottles are interpreted as cellphones and cash," Asep said at a press conference at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Friday, March 15.

Asep revealed that illegal levies were withdrawn from the suspects for various exclusive facilities.

"In the form of accelerating the isolation period, using cellphones and power banks, to inspection information," he said.

"Meanwhile, prisoners who do not or are late in depositing are given uncomfortable treatment, including the detention room being locked from outside, prohibiting, and reducing sports rations and receiving more duty on guard rations and hygiene pickets," continued Asep.

The money obtained by the suspects from the extortion practice reached Rp6.3 billion from 2019 to 2023. And there will still be a search and deepening of the flow of money and its use," he said.

The 15 employees who are suspects have been detained, including Achmad Fauzi. They are suspected of violating Article 12 letter e of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) to 1 of the Criminal Code.
