JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) urges Muslims not to use products affiliated with Israel during Ramadan 2024, both for consumption of sahur, breaking the fast, or delivering Ramadan.

"Muslims are not allowed to use Israeli products and their supporters, it can be started in the month of Ramadan, not using Israeli products for sahur consumption and breaking the fast," said Head of MUI for Foreign Relations and International Cooperation, Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim, quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, March 10.

Sudarnoto encouraged the entire community to continue to switch to using domestic products that were not affiliated with Israel and its supporters. This step was taken as a form of the teaching of love for the country as part of faith (hubbul wathan minal faith).

He reminded the public to be aware of Israeli date products. This boycott of Israel's affiliated products is a form of pressure that can be done by the community.

"Because, with a boycott, we can weaken Israel's economic power so as not to attack again," he said.

Meanwhile, Indonesia Halal Watch said that the MUI Fatwa Number 83 raises public awareness, so that local products can replace global brands.

Indonesia Halal Watch founder, Ikhsan Abdullah said public awareness not to buy Israeli affiliated products can be seen from research data conducted by Indonesia Halal Watch in 2023.

Indonesia Halal Watch conducted a questionnaire with 700 respondents in Jabodetabek, Bandung, and Surabaya.

From the data he collected, said Ikhsan, about 87 percent of respondents supported the MUI Fatwa on Support Law Against Palestine.

Respondents also changed their shopping habits. If previously bought products carelessly, now respondents will consider whether the product is affiliated with Israel or not.
