The UN Human Rights Office Affirms Israel Cannot Attack Rafah Or Will Cause Many Casualties

JAKARTA - The United Nations Human Rights Office insists Israel's attack on Rafah should not occur, as it will cause the loss of many Palestinians' lives and worsen the health situation there.

"If Israel carries out the threat of a military attack on Rafah, in which 1.5 million people are forced to flee in a pathetic and inhumane condition, any ground attack on Rafah will cause many casualties and will increase the risk of further atrocities," Jeremy aired. spokeswoman for the United Nations Human Rights Office, reported The Times of Israel March 8.

It is known that about 1.5 million people are estimated to be crammed into Rafah, on the southernmost outskirts of the enclave close to the border with Egypt, most of whom fled their homes in the north to avoid Israeli military attacks.

Earlier, PM Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday, Israel would continue its attacks on Hamas, including to Rafah City in southern Gaza, despite international pressure to stop it.

"There is international pressure and this pressure continues to rise, but especially as international pressure increases, we must unite, we must unite against efforts to stop the war," he said.

He added that Israel would operate throughout Gaza, "including Rafah, Hamas' last stronghold".

"Anyone who asks us not to act in Rafah means asking us to lose the war and that's not going to happen," said PM Netanyahu.

Israel's planned attack on Rafah has received scrutiny and opposition from various parties, including the United Nations, the United States, and the European Union, worrying about civilian casualties to be caused by attacks on the region.
