The 2024 Election Is Called The Worst JK: Democracy Regulated By Government And People Have Money

DEPOK - 10th and 12th Vice Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia Jusuf Kalla (JK) said the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) was the worst in history. This democratic party is considered to have been regulated by people who have power and money.

"For me, I once said this was the worst election in the history of the Indonesian election since 55 (1955). This means that election democracy is then governed by minorities, meaning that people who are capable, people of government, people who have money," said JK in a discussion on Consolidation for Democracy Post-Ection 2024: Opposition or Coalition? at the Auditorium Juwono Sudarsono Fisip UI, Depok, Thursday, March 7.

"This assessment also emerged because there were many frauds that occurred during the 2024 election," continued JK. However, the public is aware of this practice.

"We see from various views, various angers, various protests because this election is not transparent, there are many frauds," he said.

"There are many things that cause democracy not to work as we expected," continued JK.

One of the frauds mentioned by JK was the use of social assistance (bansos) as a sound capper. This strategy is considered to be a source of problems in the election because the voices of the people seem to be purchased.

"Starting from the problem of large social assistance funds, large kinds of things, threat problems, persuasion problems, a combination of all of them, of course, I said earlier, then the democracy that we hope to want the people's voice to be bought by the abilities of the people who determine the last election, that's what happened," explained JK.

JK said that there is a lot that must be addressed from the 2024 General Election. Therefore, democracy in Indonesia can be improved in the future.

If no corrections are made, added JK, what will happen is that it is not impossible that the authoritarian regime will later rule.

"Well, now we have just gone through a way of democratic government with this election, which for us, many people think that this needs to be corrected, needs to be evaluated," he said.

"If this system becomes a habit, then we will return to the authoritarian era, that's the real problem," concluded JK.
