Condemns Israel's Actions In Gaza War And UN Value Failed, Brazilian President Lula: Murder Must Stop

JAKARTA - Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Thursday the United Nations had failed to resolve international conflicts in the Gaza Strip, condemning Israel's actions in the Palestinian enclave.

This was conveyed by President Lula when he was in Egypt, meeting with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and visiting the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.

"Israel's behavior has no explanation: under the pretext of fighting Hamas, they killed women and children," he said after a meeting with El-Sisi President.

The Brazilian leader further said that Palestine should be recognized as a sovereign and accepted state at the United Nations as a full member, as well as calling for reforms to the UN Security Council.

"The multilateral institutions formed to help solve this issue are not working. That is why Brazil is committed to making the necessary changes within the global governing body, and we look forward to relying on Egypt's support," he told reporters with President El-Sisi.

President Lula also said the permanent Security Council should be expanded and its veto rights removed.

"It was the security council members who sparked the war," he said.

Apart from meeting with President El-Sisi, President Lula also visited the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo. The arrival of President Lula was continued by Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, quoted from Arab News.

Recalling that Brazil was the first Latin American country to accept observer status in the organization, he was proud of the historical and cultural ties that unite Brazil and the Arab world.

Speaking later to the Arab League, President Lula said Brazil condemned the Hamas attack on Israeli civilians on October 7, but Israel's response was "disproportionate and indiscriminate" and unacceptable.

President Lula said there would be no peace without the creation of a Palestinian state and called for an immediate ceasefire to allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza.

"Killing must be stopped," he said.
