Mahfud MD Wants To Return The KPK Ruh To The Antasari Azhar Era To Agus Rahardjo

JAKARTA If he passes the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) contestation, vice presidential candidate (cawapres) serial number 3 Mahfud Md together with presidential candidate (Capres) Ganjar Pranowo will revise Law Number 19 of 2019 concerning the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK Law).

"If, for example, God will support the people and relatives, Mr. Ganjar and I are given the trust to become president and vice president, we will revise the KPK Law," Mahfud promised at the Collision event, Prof! at the Bloc Post, Jakarta, Wednesday, February 7.

Mahfud said that the revision of the KPK Law was needed taking into account the current conditions in which the KPK did not show its performance as an independent institution.

"Now what is currently the KPK does not show performance (performance) as an independent institution. That is because in the past the law was changed, then the selection process was also collusive," he said.

In fact, he said, the KPK had previously triumphed in the previous leadership, as in the era of Agus Rahardjo.

"KPK once had a heyday, namely in the early days there was Taufiequrachman Ruki who started his breakthrough. Then Antasari Azhar, got to Agus. Agus Rahardjo, that's the last one pretty good," he said.

Therefore, Mahfud is committed to revising the KPK Law and will not allow the Chairman of the KPK to attend cabinet meetings.

"Back to the beginning, independent institutions should not be interfered with by the government, and the chairman of the KPK should not have a meeting, attend a cabinet meeting, because it is outsiders. Let him be independent," said Mahfud.
