Take Chinese Refrence, Mahfud: I Agree Corruptor Sentenced To Death

JAKARTA - Candidate for vice president (cawapres) number 3, Mahfud MD emphasized that perpetrators of corruption (tipikor) are given a maximum penalty in the form of the death penalty in order to create a deterrent effect.

"China is also our reference, I always say I agree that corruptors are sentenced to death," Mahfud said in a dialogue 'Tabrak Prof!' at Pos Bloc, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, February 7.

Mahfud said that the consideration of maximum sanctions should be rewarded to corruptors. However, Mahfud reminded that the death penalty could only be applied to corruptors who fall into the severe category.

"The only condition is that it can only be done in a crisis situation, the crisis is not explained, the size of the crisis is economic, what is it, what size? So that no prosecutor wants to sue," explained Mahfud.

Mahfud again reminded that the requirements for the death penalty are in accordance with the law. Including the matter of the new Criminal Code (KUHP) which alleviates the death penalty for corruptors if they behave well.

"The death penalty can be imposed but when 10 years during the death penalty have not been executed and has good behavior, the sentence can be changed based on the court's decision to life sentence, that is the current law," said Mahfud.
