The Sinking Ship Case In Sitaro, North Sulawesi, The Captain Of LCT Blora V Becomes A Suspect

MANADO - Investigators from the Ditpolairud Polda of North Sulawesi (Sulut) have named the suspect status of JM, the captain of the LCT Blora V ship that sank and resulted in casualties in the waters between Biaro Island and Tagulandang, Siau Tagulandang Biaro Regency (Sitaro).

"We have examined the captain of the ship, and have named him a suspect and detained him," said Director of Polairud Polda North Sulawesi Kombes Kukuh Prabowo as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 30.

The suspect charged with Article 323 paragraph (3) in conjunction with Article 219 paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 17 of 2008 concerning Shipping Subs Article 302 in conjunction with 117 (2) letter a of Law No. 17 of 2008 concerning Shipping or Article 359 of the Criminal Code, with a penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1,500,000,000.

According to him, the ship sailed from Bitung Harbor to Tagulandang without having a Sailing Approval Letter issued by Syahbandar.

"Without the Sailing Approval issued by Syahbandar Bitung, the captain dared to sail in bad weather and because of his mistake in managing the ship to sail in bad weather so that the ship sank and resulted in the victim's death and disappearance. The ship was carrying a tronton vehicle and a truck and 10 crew and ten passengers," he said.

In the incident, two people were declared dead and eight people were declared missing.

"The victims died, namely Defilio Sodame (crew) and Selsius Manantara (passenger). Eight people were declared missing, namely Akmaryo Lexnater Sandrisaw Sawal (crew), Hans engelbert Karingan (crew), Rano Mantu (passenger), Iwan (passenger), Andre Age (passenger), Maikel Siwi (passenger), Dedi R Mananeke (passenger) and Vanes A Kalundas (passenger). Meanwhile, there are ten life jackets and one life buy," he said.
