Pickpockets Arrested During Action At HI Roundabout

JAKARTA - A number of residents who were crowding the Hotel Indonesia (HI) roundabout area, Central Jakarta, on New Year's Eve arrested a person suspected of being a pickpocket while in action in a crowded location.

"Copet, pickpocket!," said the residents together who asked the singer to stop for a while because there was a pickpocket.

When he heard the screams of residents, a singer immediately stopped and asked the officers on guard to go to the location where the suspected pickpocket was arrested.

Artist Indra Bekti, who is the host of the event, asked residents not to be vigilant. He appealed to be handed over to officers who are maintaining security.

"Don't get beaten, just secure the officers," said Indra as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 31.

At the same time, Indra also asked the public to protect their valuables, because the area was crowded with residents.

"Keep your valuables. Don't let your guard down," he said.

The officers then immediately secured the suspected pickpocket to the guard. Until 22.15 WIB, the officers secured a number of people suspected of being pickpockets and they were immediately taken to a safer place.

The police deployed 3,202 joint personnel to guard the crowd on New Year's Eve 2025 in Central Jakarta.

"The strength of the involvement of security personnel is 3,202 personnel to secure the night of the 2025 New Year celebration in the Central Jakarta area," said Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Police Susatyo Purnomo Condro.

The joint personnel came from Polda Metro Jaya, Polres Metro Central Jakarta, TNI, Provincial Government (Pemprov) DKI and related agencies. The personnel were placed in a number of locations in Central Jakarta.

The 3,202 personnel include 630 personnel on guard in the Gambir area, starting from the State Palace, US Embassy, Monas (stage 1) and the Central Jakarta Mayor's Office (stage 2).

Then, 1,201 personnel guarding the Menteng area including Sari Pan Pacific (stage 3), Sarinah (stage 4), in front of the Japanese Embassy (stage 5), HI Roundabout (stage 6) and in front of Plaza UOB (stage 7).
