Jokowi Will Meet With President Of Tanzania To Discuss Sustainability Of Cooperation

JAKARTA - President of Tanzania Samia Suhulu Hassan will meet with President Joko Widodo to discuss the sustainability of cooperation between the two countries.

The visit was also a reply to President Jokowi's state visit to Tanzania in August 2023.

Reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, January 24, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pahala Mansury received a visit from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of East Africa of Tanzania, January Makamba, on Tuesday (23/1). The meeting was focused on discussing preparations for President Tanzania's visit to Indonesia which will take place on January 24-26, 2024.

The bilateral meeting was the first meeting since January was sworn in as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of East Africa Tanzania on September 1, 2023.

During his visit, President Samia will bring three ministers and 131 business delegates who are engaged in multi-sectors. These business delegates will attend the Tanzania-Indonesia Business and Investment Forum on January 25 at the Mulia Hotel. This forum is the result of collaboration with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).

Several potential cooperations in the fields of trade, investment, oil, gas, minerals, energy, blue economy, and development cooperation have been discussed at the meeting of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and the Foreign Minister of Tanzania.

Pahala expressed his appreciation for the approval of the Tanzanian government to Pertamina to acquire oil and gas exploration and production company Wentworth Resources by Maurel & Prom (M&P) - a subsidiary of PT Pertamina Internasional Exploration and Production (PIEP).

"As a reciprocity and form of Indonesia's cooperation commitment to Tanzania, the government through Pertamina has started a program to increase the capacity of TPDC employees (DPR national oil companies) by 100 scholarships, as an implementation of the MoU signed on President Joko Widodo's visit five months ago," said Pahala.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Minister of Tanzania, January said that the visit of the President of Tanzania was the first time he had visited Indonesia, which was carried out for the sustainability of cooperation between the two countries.

During his visit to Tanzania in August 2023, President Jokowi and President Samia discussed efforts to strengthen relations between Indonesia and Tanzania.

In agriculture, Indonesia is committed to assisting the revitalization of Farmers Agriculture and theural Training Center in Morogoro, Tanzania. Regarding health, Indonesia also plans to support Tanzania's health security by meeting the needs of pharmaceutical products in the country.

President Jokowi also mentioned that through the bilateral meeting, Indonesia wants to increase the value of investment in Tanzania in the energy sector, including the management of the Mnazi Bay Gas Block by Pertamina and the use of natural gas into chemicals and fertilizers.

This investment cooperation is considered strategic in strengthening relations between developing countries.

In addition, the President also encouraged the formation of a Priorial Trade Agreement (PTA) and Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) with Tanzania to increase trade and investment protection.
