JAKARTA - The head of Komnas Perempuan, Andy Yentriani, appreciated the police for the policies made regarding people with disabilities to become members of the police.

According to Andy, the steps taken by the National Police's Human Resources Staff (SSDM) to recruit the School Inspector of Bachelor of Police (SIPSS) and NCO for the 2024 Fiscal Year, to provide opportunities for groups with disabilities to participate in the selection are correct.

"I'm very happy to hear this news, of course we appreciate it," Andy said in a written statement received on Sunday, January 21.

Andy hopes that there will be representation of persons with disabilities to become female police officers (polwan). So that cases of violence against women can be served by paying attention to special needs.

In addition, said Andy, Komnas Perempuan also hopes that the policy of recruiting persons with disabilities can be sustainable.

"Hopefully it will become a sustainable policy and can also be applied to the recruitment of policewomen so that the need for handling cases of violence against women and development of safe conditions can be done by taking into account the special needs of women," he said.

Assistant to the National Police for Human Resources (As-HR), Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo said the South Sumatra Police had recruited people with disabilities to become National Police ASN through the 2023 Work Agreement (PPPK) test route.

"We have received 1 person with power capability at the South Sumatra Regional Police, a woman with the position of Archives", Dedi told reporters Tuesday, January 16.

For this year, said Dedi, the National Police recruited personnel from the physical disability group who had completed high school and vocational school as NCO police and graduated from college following SIPSS.

The former Head of Public Relations Division of the National Police said that people with disabilities will be assigned to fill non-field positions such as Information Technology (TI), Cyber, Finance Section, Planning, Administration and others.

"As a reference to 3 developed countries that accept police from people with disabilities, including Australia, the United States and Britain," he said.

The recruitment of SIPS for the 2024 Fiscal Year for people with disabilities is open from January 26 to March 1, 2024. Registration can be done online through the official Police website.
