The Findings Of The KPK Council Regarding Detention Center Extortion: Prisoners Can Order Online Food And Deliver Officers

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Albertina Ho said there were a number of findings obtained from the trial of alleged ethical violations related to illegal levies (extortion) at the detention center (rutan). One of them, prisoners can order food online from smuggled cellphones. "There are also those who order from outside. The money that must be paid by each detainee wants to smuggle mobile phones up to Rp10-20 million. Albertina said this is an additional facility that can be provided if they pay the officer. Then they have to pay the monthly money for the cellphone in addition to Rp200-300 thousand per one time doing the charging. “ Yes, that's the prisoner who pays, "” he said. Previously reported, the KPK Council said that alleged ethical violations related to extortion in detention centers dragged 93 people. The number quoted from the detainees for additional facilities reached Rp6.1 billion.

This figure was obtained after the KPK Council examined 169 people consisting of 27 people who were former KPK detainees and 137 people were employees who had worked at the KPK Detention Center.
