19 Dead in Israeli Attack on Palestinian Gaza Strip

JAKARTA - At least 19 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have been killed in Israeli attacks, despite US President Donald Trump announcing plans he described as a "monumental step" towards peace and security in the devastated region.

The Sunday death toll included three people killed in an air strike on an apartment in the Al-Sousi Tower in the western Gaza City - Abdullah Abu Taif (33), his pregnant wife Abeer Anan (29) and their five-year-old son, Azzam - according to medical sources at Al-Shifa Hospital, quoted by Al Jazeera (3/8).

Meanwhile, an attack on an apartment in al-Qarara, northwest of the city of Khan Younis, killed three members of the Al-Hams family - Mahmoud's father (38), his wife Fatima (37) and their young daughter. Three others were injured, said a medical source at Nasser Hospital.

Kamu Abu Muailiq (68) and his wife Huda (59) were killed in an attack on their home near Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, medics said. In the same area, two brothers were killed while riding a motorcycle.

In northern Gaza, a Palestinian was killed after being directly targeted in the Jabalia refugee camp.

Meanwhile, in al-Mawasi, Khan Younis, a Palestinian was killed, and five others were injured in an Israeli attack on a tent.

Two Palestinians, including one, were killed in an Israeli drone attack on a tent for refugees in the Remal neighborhood, west of Gaza City. Four others were killed in an attack on a vehicle in Gaza City.

Israeli attacks since dawn caused the largest daily death toll in recent weeks, according to Palestinian health officials.

On Saturday, Israeli strikes hit a medicine warehouse connected to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir el-Balah.

The director general of the Gaza Ministry of Health, Munir al-Bursh, said that destroying the supplies "turns medicines and diseases themselves into a weapon of war". The ministry reported that two facilities were destroyed and two others were severely damaged.

Reporting from the site of the bombing, Al Jazeera correspondent Moath al-Kahlout, saw a large crater and said the attack came just 15 minutes after the evacuation order, damaging tents where refugees were sheltering, and triggering a new wave of displacement.

Israeli warplanes have struck multiple targets over the past 48 hours, operating at low altitude without issuing advance warnings to residents, according to Al Jazeera correspondents reporting from across Gaza.

Most of the targets were residential buildings, apartments, and civilian gatherings, which Israel says are legitimate targets because they include members of Hamas or other armed groups.

"The attack came without any warning or any evacuation order for residents living in the targeted areas," Nour Khaled of Al Jazeera reported from Gaza City.

"Last night was very difficult for the Palestinians. There were a number of attacks targeting several areas throughout the Gaza Strip," he said.

On Saturday, at least eight Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes targeting various areas. On Friday, Palestinians were also killed in a separate attack.

The killing follows a pattern of previous agreements that are only on paper and have no basis in reality, such as the repeated ceasefires in Lebanon since 2024 and last October's ceasefire in Gaza.

All of these agreements were largely ignored by Israel, which was accused of deliberately sabotaging the agreements.

The latest Israeli attack comes as the International Peace and Stabilization Force - the monitoring entity formed under the Washington 20-point Gaza peace plan - and Trump announced a deal on Friday to implement the next phase of the Gaza "ceasefire", with the council saying Hamas had accepted a detailed roadmap.

Israel has not officially commented on the proposal.

Mohanad Mustafa, an academic and expert on Israeli affairs, told Al Jazeera that Israel approached the deal from a position of non-commitment.

"All of these agreements were imposed on Israel. Israel does not want to go to settlements or agreements. These agreements were imposed on Israel by other parties, especially the United States," he said.

"Israel gives a different interpretation of the agreement at the level of terminology and clauses," he explained.

"Therefore, Israel tends to violate the agreement, claiming that its interpretation and approach are different from how the other parties interpret it," he said.

It is known that the health authorities in Gaza announced on Sunday that the death toll from the Israeli aggression in the Palestinian enclave since October 2, 2023 has reached 73,356 people while the number of injured reached 174,185 people, quoted from WAFA.

Meanwhile, since the October 2025 ceasefire agreement, Palestinian deaths have reached 1,230 people, while the injured have reached 4,076 people.
