East Java Police Chief: Perpetrators Of Threatening Anies Charged With ITE Law

East Java Police Chief Inspector General Imam Sugianto said the account owner who tweeted about the threat of shooting presidential candidate number 1 Anies Baswedan was charged with the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (ITE).

"We'll see which offenses are violated later, what is clear is that ITE must have been hit, because it uses social media and maybe another article will be asked by Dirkrimsus," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, January 13.

Currently, the perpetrators of the threat of Anies are still being investigated intensively.

"He has been arrested and developed by the Dirkrimsus," he said.

Meanwhile, presidential candidate Anies Baswedan appreciated the performance of the National Police who succeeded in arresting the perpetrators of the threat of shooting him.

"We express our gratitude and appreciation to the National Police Chief and the National Police so that this election can run in a conducive and peaceful manner," said Anies.

Anies said the quick and decisive steps taken by the National Police were a form of commitment from the security institution to ensure a safe and peaceful election.

"This is important, because the protection of freedom of expression applies to all and to all. Not only to the presidential or public officials, but to all the people," said Anies.

Anies asked that the perpetrators of threatening the murder of him be punished in accordance with applicable regulations, as well as prioritizing the principles of justice and proportionality.

"Hopefully the perpetrators can still be trained and realized that what he wrote could be dangerous and sent the wrong message to the public," he said.
