3 Districts In Cianjur Flood-Longsor Disaster Emergency, Sub-districts Asked To Actively Help Residents

CIANJUR - The Cianjur Regency Government (Pemkab) has declared an emergency status for floods and landslides in three sub-districts in Cianjur until Thursday, January 11.

Head of BPBD Cianjur Asep Sukma Wijaya said the status was following floods and landslides that hit Ciranjang, Bojongpicung and Haurwangi sub-districts since Thursday, January 4.

"The status of the disaster emergency was determined based on BMKG information regarding extreme weather that hit most of the Cianjur area until April, accompanied by aftershocks that had occurred in the three sub-districts," he said in Cianjur, Tuesday, January 9, as reported by Antara.

In addition, BPBD Cianjur has also set a standby status in all Cianjur areas until April 2024. This is because high rainfall accompanied by extreme weather will continue to fall.

Asep said that his party had also alerted hundreds of Disaster Resilient Volunteers (Retana) in three sub-districts with emergency status for floods and landslides.

He also asked residents to be observant in reading natural signs of a disaster, so that they could immediately evacuate when they saw the river's water discharge starting to commemorate the village in anticipation of the death toll.

"All sub-districts in Cianjur are still on disaster alert until April, because most areas in Cianjur are prone to natural disasters, especially when it rains heavily with an intensity of more than two hours," he said.

Cianjur Regent Herman Suherman said he had instructed all village and sub-district officials to collect data and report as well as mapping when natural disasters occur, including providing evacuation locations for residents when needed.

Herman asked residents to immediately report to the authorities and officers from the Cianjur BPBD, when they saw natural signs of a disaster or damage caused by natural disasters such as damage to bridges, roads and other public facilities.

"We have asked the sub-district head and village head to check, especially areas prone to floods and landslides, when they see that damage can be repaired immediately, so as not to collapse or be badly damaged and then reported and repaired," he said.

His party emphasized that village and sub-district officials take precautions by monitoring and checking the condition of cliffs and all the infrastructure and river water discharges every day, especially when it rains heavily, so that disaster mitigation runs.
