Lukas Enembe Dies, Papua Provincial Government Asks Residents To Raise The Flag By Half

JAYAPURA - The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of Papua appealed to the local community to raise the flag of the half-mast starting December 27-29, 2023 as a final tribute to the late former Governor of Papua Lukas Enembe in Bumi Cenderawasih.The Assistant for Government of the Papua Regional Secretary Yohanes Walilo said the appeal was based on a joint meeting with the Papuan Police Chief and Danrem 172/Prajat Wira Yakthi Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih as well as several Heads of Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) within the Papua Provincial Government. "We and all the community are deeply saddened by this, where while still celebrating Christmas, we have heard the sad news of the death of Lukas Enembe, who is the best figure and leader in Papua," said Yohanes, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday 27 December. According to Yohanes, his party also appealed to all residents to jointly maintain peace and security and pray for each other as a form of respect to the deceased. "Because it is still in the Christmas celebration so we hope that everyone maintains peace," he said. He explained by raising the flag of the half-maspan as well as a sign that Papua was mourning the death of the best figure and leader. "Information from the family on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 night will be flown to Papua so that it is expected to arrive at Sentani Jayapura Airport Thursday morning, December 28 morning," he said. He added related to the burial and funeral of the deceased, it will still be communicated further with the family and church. Meanwhile, the Head of the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital Lieutenant General TNI Dr. Albertus Budi Sulistya confirmed the news of Lukas Enembe's death on Tuesday, December 26 at 10.45 WIB.

"It's true, (died) at 10.45 WIB," said the head of the RSPAD when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta. Information from the legal team of Lukas Enembe, including from the attorney of the deceased, Antonius Eko Nugroho, the body of Lukas Enembe is planned to be brought to Jayapura on Wednesday, December 27 evening.
