SERANG - Chairman of the Banten General Election Commission (KPU) Mohamad Ihsan in Serang, Banten, Tuesday, said that the Banten KPU took over the duties of the three regencies/cities KPU, namely Tangerang City, Serang City, and Tangerang Regency.

The position of commissioner of the General Election Commission (KPU) of three regencies and cities in Banten has been vacant as of Monday (23/10) following the end of the term of office of the commissioner for the period 2018-2023. "Because the position of commissioner of the KPU in districts/cities has been vacant, his term of office has ended," he said, Tuesday, December 26.

Ihsan said, the takeover of duties, authorities, and obligations of KPU commissioners in three districts/cities in Banten based on the KPU RI decision Number 1716 of 2023. "The KPU RI has issued a decision Number 1716 of 2023 concerning the takeover of duties, authorities and obligations of the KPU of three districts/cities in Banten Province," he said. Mohamad Ihsan said, the takeover of the task was carried out until the inauguration of the new commissioner for the period 2023-2028. His party is also still waiting for the announcement of the elected commissioner by the KPU RI. "Yes, until now there is still no announcement, we are still waiting for the KPU RI regarding the announcement," he said. Mohamad Ihsan said, although the KPU commissioner positions in the three districts/cities experienced a void will not interfere with the ongoing 2024 election stage process. He is also carrying out the task at the Tangerang City KPU to prepare a series of voting simulations and vote counting at polling stations (TPS) and receive election logistics that come to the Tangerang City KPU Warehouse. As is known, the KPU of the three districts/cities in Banten until now are still making selection to determine the new commissioners. Currently, the selection stages have entered the last 10. Later, from the top 10, five commissioners will be selected for the period 2023-2028. The KPU commissioners themselves will run for 5 years and will be selected every 5 years. If the periodization of their positions refers to the inauguration date, then on Sunday (24/12) the position of KPU commissioners in the 3 districts/cities has expired. That is because they were sworn in by the Indonesian KPU on December 24, 2018.
