Anies Wants To Still Have An Opposition If He Wins The Presidential Election, But The Portion Is Not Bigger Than The Government

JAKARTA - Presidential candidate number 1, Anies Baswedan admitted that he still wanted an opposition camp to win the 2024 presidential election and serve as President. Because, if the opposition persists, Anies views that there will be a space for debate from two sides in the legislature in responding to every policy taken by the government. "There is room for the opposition to express his views so that there is a balanced debate, given space for the debate. But if there is no room for debate, then the losers are all of us," said Anies at Anies' Desak event in Central Jakarta, Friday, December 22. Anies then quipped the condition of President Joko Widodo's government, which now seems to be reducing the portion of the opposition. Thus, many government's crucial policies just passed without going through debate from the opposition before being implemented. "For example, making decisions regarding IKN, taking input on the Omnibus Law, it's a process of eliminating debate, as if because the opposition is small, then it's taken care of it," said Anies. However, even though it is still necessary to view the opposition, Anies wants the portion of the camp that does not agree politically with him to be bigger than the coalition. The former governor of DKI Jakarta also hopes that the party that won the 2024 Legislative Election will be one of his supporting parties. Thus, the government's policy planning can be realized without being caught in opposition rejection.

"We still hope that being in the government has greater power than the opposition, so that the decisions we want to make can be scored," he said.
