Covid-19 Cases In Jakarta Rise, Vulnerable Groups Of Elderly Asked To Complete Dose 4 Vaccination

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Health Office (Dinkes) appealed to elderly people aged 50 years and over to complete four doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. This is to reduce the risk of virus transmission which has increased significantly since November 2023.

"We hope that the elderly over 50 will immediately complete the vaccination with four doses," said the Head of the Surveillance, Epidemiology and Immunization Section of the DKI Health Office, Ngabila Salama, Friday, December 8.

Ngabila explained that the elderly group is included in the category that has a high risk of experiencing serious conditions if infected with Covid-19, so it is important to complete vaccinations in order to increase endurance.

"Pralansia is over 50 years old, including people who have the potential to experience severity due to comorbid diseases. Therefore, four doses of vaccination need to be carried out," added Ngabila.

The DKI Health Office has reported an increase in positive cases of Covid-19 in Jakarta since last month, with a spike recorded on November 13, 2023.

As of December 3, 2023, the number of positive Covid-19 cases jumped by 30 to 40 percent compared to the previous week. Even so, Ngabila did not specify the specific increase in cases.

"In November, there was an increase of 22 percent compared to the previous month, namely October," said Ngabila.

Ngabila stated that Indonesia had entered the Covid-19 endemic phase since June 2023. Despite an increase in cases in DKI Jakarta, the situation is still under control with the absence of a significant increase in the number of patients being hospitalized.

"The public is reminded to remain calm and continue to apply clean and healthy living behavior," concluded Ngabila.
