JAKARTA - British Prime Minister (PM) Andy Burnham announced a 20 percent cut in commercial property tax rates for clubs, pubs, and music venues from April 2027 to encourage local hospitality and leisure businesses in the UK.
"Pubs, clubs and live music venues will get a 20 per cent cut on their commercial property tax bills, so pubs are generally expected to save £1,100 (around Rp26 million) next year," a statement from the British Prime Minister's Office said on Thursday, July 24, as reported by ANTARA from Sputnik.
The new policy of cutting tax rates will benefit almost 32,000 pubs, clubs and live music venues in the UK, as part of a wider plan from the new Burnham government to boost economic growth in every region, by reducing the tax burden on local businesses.
"It has been too long for the government to just sit back while valuable places disappear from the main roads in our area. So, today I will change that. The government will support every effort that the people in their area want," said Burnham.
"I will protect pubs and high streets in the area, which are the heart of our communities, and that is what we (the British government) will do," he added.
Burnham officially took office as British prime minister on Monday (20/7) and became the fifth prime minister in the last four years.
