JAKARTA - North Korean leader Kim Jong-un seems to be "in a hurry" to appoint his daughter to politics, in an effort to show his commitment to the succession of the third power, an important official Seoul said on Wednesday.

Unification Minister, Kim Yung-Ho, made the assessment in the middle of speculation, often the daughter of Kim, who is believed to be named Ju-Ae, appearing in public, may indicate that she might be appointed to replace her father.

"North Korean leader seems to rush to highlight his daughter as an indication, he is trying to show his desire to succeed in dealing with difficulties (which hit North Korea)," Kim said in a meeting with reporters at a hotel, launching The Korea Times December 6.

The minister said, there were "signs" that North Korea was facing various difficulties, including a series of closing diplomatic missions and lack of food.

Kim asked the North Korean leader to divert the focus of his country's policies to steps to improve people's livelihoods, rather than policies that focus on the military at an important party meeting scheduled for the end of this month.

Separately, North Korea plans to hold a plenary meeting of the ruling working party committee at the end of this month, in an effort to review the policy steps of 2023 and uncover the policy line for next year.

"(North Korean leader) must make brave decisions for the economy and livelihoods of the community, by realizing that it is impossible to capture two rabbits, namely the military and economy," said Minister Kim.

Meanwhile, a senior official at the Unification Ministry said, Kim Ju-AE seemed to appear "in the early stages" in the process of succession from generation to generation.

In the Party Congress in 2021, North Korea handed over the title of Secretary General to Kim Jong-un and formed seven secretaries, including the first secretary.

The first secretary of the working party can take the role of Kim Jong-un when the Secretary General cannot carry out his duties.

"The position of the first secretary is empty. This might be a consideration for Kim Ju-AE," the official told reporters who did not want to be named.

Ju-Ae is believed to be around 10 years old. She first appeared in public on November 18, 2022, when she, and her father, attended the shooting of Ballistic Missiles between Hwasong-17.

Minister Unification KIM previously opened the possibility that Ju-AE could be the successor of Kim Jong-un.

It is known, Kim Jong-un leading North Korea after his father Kim Jong-il died in 2011. While the late Kim inherited the power of his father, the founder of the country, Kim Il-Sung, who died in 1994.
