BANTEN - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) plans to summon Deputy Minister of Law and Security (Wamenkumham) Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej or Eddy Hiariej. He will be summoned as a suspect in bribery and gratification cases.

"The information we received from the investigative team this week, especially on Thursday we summoned the suspects including the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights to attend the KPK's Red and White building in its capacity as a suspect," said Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri in the Serang area, Banten, Wednesday, December 6.

Ali ensured that a summons for Eddy had been sent. "We hope that these suspects can attend to fulfill the summons of KPK investigators," he said.

Even though he will be summoned, Ali cannot confirm whether Eddy will be detained or not. He said the authority was in the hands of the investigator.

So far we have not received that information (will be detained, ed). But the important thing is that we call the parties first to attend the examination," he said.

"Whether or not the detention will be carried out is fully under the authority of the investigator. Of course there are subjective and objective conditions. Once again, there have never been KPK suspects who have not been detained but all of them need time for investigation processes," continued Ali.

Previously reported, the KPK had examined Eddy Hiariej on Monday, December 4 as a witness for other suspects. He was examined for seven hours by the anti-corruption commission investigators but he did not convey anything.

In this case, Eddy has been named a suspect along with three other people. He is suspected of receiving gratuities and bribes.

The KPK revealed that the form of gratification was allegedly in the form of receiving a sum of money related to the consultation and assistance for the ratification of a company's legal entity. The determination of the suspect based on an investigation warrant (sprindik) has been signed since two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Eddy has now submitted a letter of resignation from his position as Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights. The decision will be taken by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) after making a working visit to East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
