JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Adies Kadir, welcomed the election of candidates for the leadership of the KPK and candidates for members of the KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas) for the period 2024-2029 after the implementation of a fit and proper test or fit and proper test conducted by Commission III of the DPR. He hopes that the elected KPK leadership and members of the KPK Council can show integrity to bring Indonesia clean from corruption.
"Congratulations on the election of KPK leader and chairman Setyo Budiyanto who was elected in yesterday's plenary meeting, hopefully, the trust and can create a clean Indonesia from corruptors," said Adies Kadir, Friday, November 22.
Candidates for the leadership of the KPK and members of the KPK Council for the 2024-2029 period were chosen after going through a fit and proper test process which was held from 18-21 November 2024. This process is a follow-up to Prabowo Subianto's presidential letter (Surpres) number R60/PRES/11/2024 dated November 4, 2024 regarding candidates for leadership and the KPK Council.
The five names who were elected as commissioners of the KPK were Setyo Budiyanto (chairman), Fitroh Rochcahyanto, Ibnu Basuki Widodo, Johanis Tanak, and Agus Joko Pramono. Setyo Budiyanto was elected as Chairman of the KPK for the period 2024-2029 because he obtained 46 votes out of a total of 48 votes from Commission III members of the DPR.
Meanwhile, the five members of the KPK Council who were elected were Wisnu Baroto, Benny Mamoto, Gusrizal, Sumpeno, and Chisca Mirawati. Determination of these names as candidates and candidates for members of the KPK Council will be ratified by the DPR in a plenary meeting which will be held next week.
After the determination is ratified at the Plenary Meeting, the DPR will send the results of the fit and proper test as consideration to the Government. The elected KPK leaders and the KPK Council will be sworn in by President Prabowo Subianto.
Adies himself also attended the plenary meeting for the appointment of the elected KPK leaders and the KPK Council, Thursday (21/11) yesterday.
"This process is an important step in ensuring the presence of leaders with integrity, professionalism, and dedication to strengthen the eradication of corruption in Indonesia," explained the legislator from the East Java I electoral district.

"KPK in its new leadership must be stronger in eradicating corruption for the advancement of the nation and state," continued Adies, who also served in Commission III of the DPR.
Adies also emphasized that the selection of candidates for KPK leadership and members of the Council was considered based on experience in the legal system. He stated that the majority of candidates for KPK leaders from law enforcement officers (APH) were no doubt about their competence and capability.
Thus, he hopes that the new KPK leadership can bring reform and provide innovative steps in eradicating corruption. Because basically, the KPK is said to need sustainable reform.
"They bring the perspective needed to overhaul the KPK's approach in carrying out its functions. Through leaders who understand the intricacies of the system and the work of law enforcement agencies, hopefully they can maintain integrity as an anti-corruption agency," said Adies.
Seeing the declining level of public confidence in the KPK, such as the survey report from the Political Indicators agency in October 2024, where the KPK only received 51% of public trust, Adies considered it to be a joint homework so that the accountability of anti-corruption law enforcement agencies could be stronger and more effective.
"KPK leaders must be able to collaborate with various parties, including other law enforcement agencies, to create synergies in eradicating corruption," he said.
