Muhadjir Effendy Calls Formal Indonesia Not Willing To Accommodate Rohingya Refugees

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had not provided specific directions regarding Rohingya refugees who had flooded Aceh in recent times. "Not yet, there is no input (special directive) yet," said Muhadjir after meeting with the Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi at City Hall, Jakarta, Tuesday, December 5. Muhadjir added, formally, Indonesia refuses to accommodate Rohingya refugees. Especially to live permanently. "But we are formally, we are a country that is not willing to accommodate, accept Rohingya refugees. Moreover, we will live permanently," he explained. According to Muhadjir, the issue of the evacuation of refugees in Aceh is more on humanitarian considerations. The government will continue to pay attention to feasibility. "We will see what the purpose is, what the intention is, then let alone changing citizenship, right? We will see the process later," said Muhadjir.

Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had asked the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD to deal with Rohingya refugees following the refusal from residents.
