KPU Will Hold A Coordination Meeting With The Campaign Team To Discuss The Format For The Debate Of Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates

JAKARTA - The General Elections Commission (KPU) will hold a coordination meeting with the entire campaign team for the presidential and vice-presidential candidates to discuss the mechanism for holding the 2024 election debate

"The KPU has planned that the KPU will hold a coordination meeting again with the entire campaign team regardless of the massive news related to this debate," said KPU member Idham Holik as reported by ANTARA, Monday, December 4.

Idham explained that the KPU would explain the entire mechanism for the implementation of the debate at the meeting. Meanwhile, he continued, the KPU invited the campaign team to provide input and responses.

"But later the decision will be taken by the KPU independently. If the decision has been made, it will be immediately communicated to the public," he said.

"Independently, it means that the KPU makes decisions legally on a legal basis, a legal framework," he continued.

However, Idham has not explained in detail the date of the implementation of the coordination meeting which invited campaign teams from three pairs of presidential and vice-presidential candidates.

"In the near future, try to make it possible as soon as possible," he said.

On the other hand, Idham said that the remaining 8 days towards the implementation of the first debate were considered sufficient by the KPU to decide on the mechanism for the implementation of the debate.

"Eight days there is still sufficient time. It's not tight, it depends on the point of view. For us, it is sufficient time," he said.

Previously, the KPU had held a meeting with the entire campaign team for the presidential-cawapres candidate pair on November 29, 2023.

The KPU sets a special theme for every debate session. The first debate on December 12 will discuss law, human rights, government, eradication of corruption, and strengthening democracy.

The second debate on December 22 will carry the theme of defense, security, geopolitical, and international relations.

The theme of the third debate on January 7, 2024 includes the economy (congestion and digital), social welfare, investment, trade, taxes (digital), finance, state budget management.

The fourth debate on January 21, 2024 will discuss energy, natural resources (SDA), human resources, carbon taxes, the environment and agrarianism, as well as indigenous peoples.

The last debate on February 4, 2024 will focus on information technology, improving public services, hoaxes, intolerance, education, health (post-COVID Society), and employment.

These themes refer to the national vision in the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution and the National Long Term Development Plan (RPJPN).
