Mamuju SAR Team Evacuated Couples Trapped In Forests For 2 Days

MAMUJU - The Office of the Mamuju Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), West Sulawesi (Sulbar), evacuated two residents who were husband and wife couples who were trapped in the forest for two days.

"The husband and wife were successfully evacuated from the forest after being trapped in the forest in the North Botteng area, Mamuju Regency," said the Commander of the Mamuju Devis Basarnas Office Rescue Team as reported by ANTARA, Monday, December 4.

The two married couples who have been trapped in the forest since Saturday (2/12) are Kaco (50) and his wife Icci (44).

"We have found the victim safe and we evacuated this morning at around 05.12 WITA. The husband and wife were found approximately four kilometers from the starting point entering the forest area," said Devis.

The two victims, continued Devis, were found in the hut in a weak condition and lacked logistics and supplies.

"One of the victims, Icci, was found weak and experiencing shortness of breath, so he was evacuated using a stretcher. Meanwhile, Kaco, her husband was still able to walk along with the rescue team," said Devis.

The process of evacuating a married couple trapped in a forest in the North Botteng area lasted for more than three hours with steep and slippery terrain due to rain that flushed the area.

The rescue team, he said, was assisted by the community to cross three tributaries and one large river so that the system was used to evacuate victims in crossing the very swift river currents.

"The rescue team was forced to take turns to guide the victims due to the difficulty of the terrain being passed. Not to mention the denseness of the forest and the muddy condition of the road, so the team had to work hard when evacuating," said Devis.

After being successfully evacuated outside the forest area, the two victims were then taken to the Mamuju Regional General Hospital (RSUD) for further medical assistance.

"We express our gratitude to all those who assisted in the evacuation process and currently the two victims have undergone intensive treatment at the Mamuju Hospital," said Devis.
