Russian Navy Receives Advanced Submarine Mozhaisk: Equipped With Kalibr Cruise Missiles To Maximum Protection For Crew

JAKARTA - The Russian Navy has again received advanced submarines to strengthen its fleet, with the delivery of the fifth submarine from Project 636.3, Mozhaisk.

The handover ceremony was carried out by Russian shipbuilder Admiralty Shipyards, a subsidiary of United Shipbuilding Corporation on November 28. This is the fifth submarine of six new submarines built by local shipyards for the navy.

According to the shipyard, the submarine from the modified 636 project has higher combat effectiveness (compared to the previous project), quoted from Naval Today November 30.

With a length of 74 meters and a displacement weight of 3,900 tons, this submarine is capable of reaching an underwater speed of 20 knots.

Furthermore, Mozhaisk has the optimal combination of acoustic stealth and target detection range, the latest inertial navigation system, modern automated information and control systems, and powerful high-speed torpedo missile armaments.

In particular, this submarine is equipped with a Kalibr-PL cruise missile and developed by the Rubin Design Bureau to fight enemy submarines and warships.

"This project implements a number of innovative solutions, including the latest life support system. This ship is designed to fulfill two main tasks: ensure our country's defense capabilities and save the lives of crew members," said Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Evtukhov.

Meanwhile, Navy Commander Admiral Nikolay Yevmenov said his party would continue to build a Grouping of Project 636.3 class conventional submarines. Mozhaisk itself is planned to be placed in the Russian Navy Pacific Fleet.

"This series will continue and the fifth warship (Mozhaisk) is not the last, that's why we (will) have another warship from this series (for the Pacific Fleet) and then this series will continue for other Fleets," said Admiral Nikolay Yevmenov, quoted from TASS.

It is known that the submarine handover was attended by USC JSC Director-General Vladimir Korolev, JSC Shipyard Director General Admiralty Andrey Veselov and Mozhaisky Urban District Administrative Deputy Head Maria Azarenkova.
