KPU Calls The Debate Of Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates Not Like A Cermat Smart Quiz Format

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asy'ari said the debate over presidential and vice presidential candidates participating in the 2024 presidential election will not be held like a careful intelligent quiz that is monotonous or not interactive.

In a discussion of the most popular group (FGD) about the presidential and vice-presidential debate mechanism for the 2024 General Election at the Indonesian KPU Building, Jakarta, Wednesday, Hasyim asked for input from participants who are representatives of the Government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academics, and journalists.

"So, please enter the right method, which is right. Often yesterday (KPU) the debate was criticized like being smart and careful. So, the hope is to be alive," said Hasyim, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, November 29.

He also hopes that the participants of the discussion can formulate the latest strategic issues, so that they can produce themes that are in accordance with national and international developments.

Based on Law (UU) Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections, Hasyim explained that there were five rules regarding the quantity of debate for presidential and vice presidential candidates.

Of the five debates, the portion for presidential candidates is three times and the vice president has two opportunities.

"We imagine that the three pairs (participants in the 2024 presidential election) will attend. So, three times the debate between the presidential candidates and the proportion of presidential candidates is more, while the vice presidential debate on the proportion of the representative can be more," said Hasyim.

In addition, with this discussion, he hopes to finalize the debate mechanism and discuss more detailed topics, as well as determine the right duration and other aspects.

Hasyim added that after the discussion was complete, the Indonesian KPU would invite a successful team from the three pairs of candidates participating in the 2024 presidential election to socialize the results of the discussion on the discussion of the debate mechanism for the presidential and vice-presidential candidates.

This is done to ensure that the issues or themes that will become the subject of debate can be conveyed or confirmed properly to all candidate pairs.

The Indonesian KPU has appointed three pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates as participants in the 2024 presidential election, namely Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD, and Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

Meanwhile, the campaign period is set from Tuesday (28/11) to February 10, 2024, while the vote is on February 14, 2024.
