The defendant in the alleged criminal act of blasphemy Panji Gumilang was placed in the Indramayu correctional institution during the trial process. "The detention authority is now in the panel of judges (PN Indramayu) and at that time the detention file was issued," said Indramayu District Court Spokesperson Adrian Anju Purba in Indramayu, Antara, Monday, November 27. The transfer of Panji Gumilang's detention status was in accordance with the procedure because when the case file against the defendant was transferred by the Prosecutor's Office to the Indramayu District Court, the status changed its authority. Thus, he said, the detention status of Panji Gumilang at the Class IIB Indramayu Prison is currently under the authority of the panel of judges. The chairman of the panel of judges explained that the detention was in accordance with the law of the detention procedure, meaning that when the file was transferred. In the process of transitioning the detention status of Panji Gumilang, he said, the panel of judges at the Indramayu District Court had distributed the documents to all relevant agencies including sent to the defendant. Thus, he said, all procedures related to this had been carried out according to the existing stages. “ But what is certain is that we always do, so it is impossible for us to give the defendant's unknown detention,” said Adrian. During the follow-up trial process, said Adrian, Panji Gumilang had time to ask about his detention status. Then the panel of judges immediately answered this. "So regarding detention, the defendant said that he had not received an extension of the detention from the prosecutor's office in the trial process until now. Even though after the panel of judges determined the detention, usually we sent the detention to all relevant agencies, including the defendant,” he said. Meanwhile, the Panji Gumilang Legal Team, Heru Iskandar, stated that his client had submitted a request for a postponement of the follow-up trial on the grounds that the defendant had to check the condition of his hand at the Borromeus Hospital, Bandung City, West Java. Heru said Panji Gumilang applied for treatment because the defendant had not undergone further medical examination. “ So earlier his hands had an accident, surgery, and the action had not been sorted, so they had to be examined,” he said.

With this request, he said, the fourth trial will be held on December 6, 2023 with the agenda of the decision on the exception or memorandum of objection from Panji Gumilang's attorney.
