Fighting Hoaxes, PWI Collaborates with Mercu Buana University

JAKARTA.- In this era, information circulates almost endlessly. Fake news or hoaxes circulate endlessly. To minimize the circulation of hoaxes, Central PWI and Mercu Buana University are collaborating.

Central PWI and Mercu Buana University held a collaboration between the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. One of them is the cooperation to eradicate hoaxes which was signed by both parties at the PWI Central Office, in the Kebon Sirih area, Central Jakarta, Monday 20 November.

Memory of Understanding

The MoU on cooperation between Central PWI and Mercu Buana University was signed by the General Chair of Central PWI Hendry Ch Bangun and the Chancellor of Mercu Buana University, Prof Dr Andi Andriansyah. Meanwhile, the special anti-hoax cooperation MOA (Memory of Agreement) was signed by the Central PWI Anti-Hoax Task Force Coordinator Muhammad Iqbal Irsyad and the Head of the Public Relations Bureau of Mercu Buana University, Dr Ira Purwitasari MIkom.

Present at the event were Secretary General of Central PWI Sayid Iskandarsyah, Deputy Secretary General of Central PWI Raja Parlindungan Pane, Dr. Andi Dasmawati and Deputy Chancellor 3 of Mercu Buana University for Student Affairs and collaboration Dr Ariani Kusumo Wardhani, M Ds, CS.

According to the General Chair of the Central PWI, this MoU is an important step in building cooperation between the Central PWI and Mercu Buana University to provide the necessary resources to help identify, check and disseminate accurate information to the public.

Within the framework of this MoU, continued the Chairman, Central PWI and Mercu Buana University can share knowledge and experience, as well as hold joint activities to increase public awareness about the importance of digital literacy, responsible use of social media, and the ability to recognize and avoid the spread of fake news. .

This is an excellent initiative in fighting the spread of misinformation in today's digital era. "Hopefully the collaboration between the Central PWI and Mercu Buana University can have a positive impact and help reduce the negative effects of the spread of hoaxes," hoped the General Chair.

Cooperation in eradicating hoaxes is very important, especially ahead of the 2024 elections and presidential elections, as well as the elections for members of the DPR and DPRD level 1 and 2. Elections are an important democratic process in our country, and the spread of hoaxes can have a detrimental impact, both on voters and for competing candidates.

In this context, cooperation between Central PWI and Mercu Buana University in the Anti-Hoax Eradication MoU can play an important role. Both can work together to educate the public in filtering and verifying the information they receive. This is important so that people can make the right decisions based on accurate facts and not be influenced by hoaxes.

Central PWI and Mercu Buana University can also play a role in training or providing training for journalists, students, and prospective members of the DPR and DPRD regarding journalistic ethics, writing objective news, and preventing the spread of hoaxes.

With close cooperation between the Central PWI, Mercu Buana University, as well as the government and other elements of society, it is hoped that the election can run well and get high participation from the public to choose candidates based on accurate and verified information.

Chancellor of Mercu Buana University, Prof Dr. Andi Andriansyah, welcomed this MoU and that Mercu Buana University is ready to work together and collaborate in realizing the eradication of hoaxes.

With Mercu Buana University's involvement in this effort, there will be increased access to academic and research resources that can be very useful in identifying and combating the spread of fake news. Mercu Buana University can contribute its academic expertise and knowledge to help in developing more effective hoax eradication strategies.

Collaboration between Central PWI and Mercu Buana University will strengthen the synergy between academic interests and media practitioners in this effort. By working together, Central PWI and Mercu Buana University can create proactive steps to reduce the spread of hoaxes, as well as run digital literacy programs and training for the public on how to recognize fake news.
