The General Election Commission (KPU) held a draw and determination of the serial number of presidential and vice presidential candidates for the 2024 General Election at the Indonesian KPU office tonight. The Indonesian KPU commissioner, Idham Holik, explained that the activity started from a gala dinner with the three pairs of presidential and vice-presidential candidates and leaders of political parties that were included in the supporting coalition. "This gala dinner is a means for us to stay in touch with each other, because we know that the holding of this election is based on Pancasila," said Idham at the KPU RI office, Jalan Imam Bonjol, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, November 14. The draw and determination of serial numbers began at 19.30 WIB. The series of events opened with the opening plenary meeting remarks, followed by reading the rules of activity. The draw mechanism is divided into two stages. Taking queue numbers to take serial numbers is carried out by the vice president. The vice presidential candidate who takes the first sequence number is the one who registers first to the KPU. Furthermore, the candidate pair number is taken by the presidential candidate. "The first stage in taking this queue number is in accordance with the registration time of the presidential and vice-presidential presidents, which at that time had been held from 19 to 25 October 2023. After they got the queue number, then they took the real draw number for the determination of the candidate pair for presidential and vice-presidential candidates," explained Idham. Then, each presidential candidate opens the serial number taken, which is then determined by the KPU. After receiving serial numbers, each presidential and vice presidential candidate is given the opportunity to give their respective remarks. Idham said that the draw and pick-up activities for the presidential and vice-presidential candidate pairs were attended by leaders of political parties and party functionaries. "We provide sufficient seat allocation in front of the KPU office yard which is the venue for the open plenary session number pair presidential and vice presidential candidates. We provide 22 seats for the leadership of joint political parties and 150 seats for party functionaries, party members or parties they invite," he explained. On Monday, November 13, the KPU appointed three official pairs to become vice presidential candidates in 2024. The decision was made after the KPU held a plenary session. The KPU has completed document verification including receiving the results of the 3 candidate pairs of health tests. The pair Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar was promoted by the coalition of NasDem, PKB and PKS parties with a total seat of 167 seats in the DPR or 29.04 percent of valid votes in the 2019 Election. Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD is promoted by the PDI-P coalition, the United Development Party (PPP), the Indonesian Unity Party (Perindo), and the Hanura Party with a total valid vote of around 39.2 million or 28.06 percent. Meanwhile, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka was promoted by the coalition of the Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), the Golkar Party (Golkar), the National Mandate Party (PAN), the Democratic Party, the Crescent Star Party (PBB), the Indonesian People's Wave Party (Gelora), the Garda Party of the Republic of Indonesia (Garuda), and the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) with a total valid vote of 59.7 million or 42.67 percent.

After the serial number is determined, the campaign period for the Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD, and Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka will last for 75 days, starting from November 28, 2023 to February 10, 2024.
