JAKARTA - PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTM) and PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum (Inalum) have succeeded in building the Smelter Grade Alumina Refinery (SGAR) Phase I in Mempawah, West Kalimantan. To continue the downstream commitment, the two companies that have joined the MIND ID mining BUMN Holding will ensure that they will continue the SGAR Phase II project with a target production of 2 million tons of alumina.

Antam Chief Operating Officer (COO) I Dewa Wirantaya said that for the SGAR Phase II project, his party is still cooperating with Inalum as a commitment to SOE synergy in the MIND ID group. Meanwhile, for phase II progress, Dewa said that he had entered the Bankable Feasibility Study (BFS) stage, aka a feasibility study.

"Currently we are still working with Inalum to resolve BFS or Bankable Feasibility Study," he said, quoted Monday, November 18.

Dewa added that his party hopes that this BFS will be completed in the first semester of 2025 so that it will continue with the Final Investment Decision (FID) process.

He said, for now the SGAR phase I progress has completed the commissioning process and is expected to carry out commercial operations in the first quarter of 2025.

Dewa further explained, for the possibility of collaborating with third parties, Antam and Inalum still have to wait for the results of the BFS to find out the success of the project.

"From the third parties, we will wait for the results of the Bankable Feasibility Study from which party later. Are there external, overseas and so on that will come in to cooperate and join the corporation from SDR phase 2 later," said Dewa.

For your information, SGAR is a project owned by PT Borneo Alumina Indonesia (PT BAI) which is a subsidiary of PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum (Inalum) and PT Aneka Tambang Tbk or Antam, who are members of the MIND ID mining BUMN Holding.

SGAR Mempawah officially operates with the inauguration of the inaugural bauxite injection by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Tuesday, September 24.
