The Chief Justice Of The Constitutional Court Is Ready To Remind Constitutional Justices If There Is A Conflict Of Interest

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Constitutional Court (MK) Suhartoyo is ready to remind constitutional judges, if later there are cases that come into contact with conflicts of interest.

"If we see this as something intersecting with a conflict of interest, we will definitely try to remind you," he said at the Constitutional Court building, Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, November 13.

This was conveyed by Suhartoyo, when asked about his commitment to leading the Constitutional Court, and handling matters related to the case, and the judge who handled the case.

"We will look at each case, and the spirit will always be reminded when there is a slice of interest," he asserted.

According to him, this has been reminded by the Honorary Council of the Constitutional Court (MKMK) regarding the Constitutional Court Decision Number 90/PUU- XXV/2023 concerning the minimum age limit for presidential and vice presidential candidates.

Suhartoyo promised to prove every decision taken by the Constitutional Court would answer every public doubt that it is not true that the institution is full of conflicts of interest.

Suhartoyo was elected as the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court through an election by deliberation and consensus in a closed plenary meeting of judges on Thursday (9/11). He was inaugurated and sworn in based on the Decree of the Constitutional Court Number 17 of 2023 concerning the Appointment of the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court for the Term of Office 2023-2028 which was stipulated in Jakarta on November 9, 2023. Suhartoyo became chairman of the Constitutional Court replacing Anwar Usman.

Meanwhile, Anwar Usman was dismissed as Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, after the decision of the Honorary Council of the Constitutional Court (MK). Anwar was proven to have committed a serious violation related to the Constitutional Court Decision Number 90/PUU- XXV/2023, where the minimum age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates was 40 years plus the clause that he had served as regional head.
