Galumbang Menak Sentenced To 6 Years In Prison In 4G BTS Corruption Case, Lighter Than Prosecutors' Demands

JAKARTA - Former President Director of PT Mora Telematika Indonesia, Galumbang Menak Simanjuntak was found guilty in the alleged corruption case of the Base Transceiver Station (BTS) 4G project and supporting infrastructure 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Thus, sentenced to 6 years in prison "The defendant Galumbang Menak Simanjuntak has been sentenced to 6 years," said Chief Judge Dennie Arsan Fatirika during a trial at the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court, Thursday, November 9. The verdict handed down to Galumbang was based on several considerations. For burdensome matters, the panel of judges said that the defendant did not support the government's program in the context of organizing a clean and free country from corruption, collusion and nepotism. Then, Galumbang Menak's actions in the corruption case of the 4G BTS project have caused state losses of around Rp. 8 trillion. "The defendant's actions also caused enormous state financial losses," he said. Meanwhile, for mitigating matters, Galumbang Menak was never convicted, was polite and expedited the trial. "The defendant did not enjoy the results of corruption, the defendant contributed to advancing the telecommunications sector in Indonesia," said Hakim Dennie.

This verdict is much lower than the prosecutor's demands. This is because Galumbang Menak is known to have been sentenced to 15 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to 1 year in prison. However, Galumbang Menak did not immediately accept the decision. He and his attorney first agreed to file an appeal.
