Polda Metro Stops Emission Test Tickets, Heru Budi: It's OK

JAKARTA - Acting (Pj) Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono accepted the decision of the Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya which stopped the implementation of vehicle ticketing and did not pass the emission test for the second time.

Heru admitted that he understands that the imposition of fines makes people burdened, especially for those who have not socialized the emission test.

"Yes, that's okay. That's the authority of the Regional Police, if (the emission test ticket) makes it difficult for the community," said Heru when met in the Lebak Bulus area, South Jakarta, Friday, November 3.

However, Heru reminded people who use motorized vehicles in their daily activities to carry out emission tests and take care of their vehicles to help reduce air pollution.

"The emission test is still so that residents know that the vehicle is for service," said Heru.

Thursday, November 2, the Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya decided to abolish fines for violators of the emission test. The reason is that many people complain about their ignorance of prosecution. So, currently only socialization is enforced.

"There are many people who complain. That's why starting today we are still conducting socialization without any fines," said Traffic Director of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Latif Usman to reporters.

Although no fines were carried out, vehicle emission test raids were still carried out on the streets. Later, vehicles that do not pass the emission test will be advised to repair vehicles.

"Ditlantas will not make a ticket, but will still make an appeal. Because indeed we see the current situation of the community's condition, and many people whose terms still need socialization again," he said.

On the other hand, Latif said that based on the results of the evaluation of the implementation of the emission test ticket, there are still many people who do not understand the importance of emission testing.

The second time the emission test ticket has occurred. Initially, the emission test ticket had been running since September 1, 2023. However, the implementation was only carried out in the first week and the Metro Police decided to stop it.

At that time, the emission test ticket was temporarily suspended to provide opportunities for the public to undergo emission tests in order to control air pollution in Jakarta.

Then on Wednesday, November 1, the emission test ticket was again held at five points in the Jakarta area. During the raid on that day, 20 four-wheeled vehicles and 37 two-wheeled vehicles were ticketed because they did not pass the test.

Fines for fines for 2-wheeled vehicles are subject to a fine of Rp. 250 thousand. Meanwhile, 4-wheeled vehicles are Rp. 500 thousand. The amount of fines is regulated in accordance with Article 285 Paragraph 1 and Article 276 of Law No. 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation (LLAJ).
