M 6.6 Earthquake Shakes Kupang NTT This Morning, Regent Orders OPD And Camat To Report Damage Impact

NTT - Kupang Regent, Korinus Masneno, reminded local residents to remain vigilant and always be alert to potential disasters that occur suddenly, especially earthquakes

He said this was related to an earthquake with a magnitude (M) of 6.6 that hit Kupang Regency on Thursday, November 2 at 05.04 WITA.

"The Kupang Regency area is an earthquake-prone area, so residents must remain alert to potential disasters that occur suddenly," said the Regent in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Thursday, November 2, as reported by Antara.

The Regent said the M 6.6 earthquake caused damage to several parts of the Kupang Regent's Office to several Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) at the Oelamasi Civic Center, the capital of Kupang Regency.

Regarding this condition, Bupato said that he had ordered related OPDs, such as the Public Works Service, Civil Service Police Unit (PP), and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to investigate and see the condition of the damage, whether it can be handled directly or in the long term.

"This time we feel the earthquake is quite large. There was damage to the Regent's Office building in the ceiling and cracks in several building walls," he said.

However, government service activities continue as usual and employees continue to enter the office.

"Even though the Regent's office was affected by the earthquake, we still entered the office and worked like," he said.

According to him, there are many jobs that need to be completed and strengthen the mental staff, while remaining alert to the possibilities that could occur, such as aftershocks and other damage.

He asked the sub-district heads and village heads as well as village heads to immediately intervene in community conditions and provide reports so that they can be handled properly.

An earthquake measuring M 6.6 rocked Kupang City on Thursday 11 November at 05.04 WITA. Based on official information from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers and the location of the earthquake was 24 kilometers southeast of Kupang-NTT.

The location of the earthquake occurred at 10.34 degrees South Latitude (LS) and 123 degrees East Longitude (BT). The earthquake was also reported not to have the potential for a tsunami.
