North Sumatra BKSDA Saves Sumatran Tigers Affected By Snares

The North Sumatra Natural Resources Conservation Center (KSDA) rescued a Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) that was caught in a snare in Marihat Raja Village, Dolok Panribuan District, Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra.

The North Sumatra BKSDA received a report from officers from the Center for the Implementation of Environmental and Forestry Standards, Aek Nauli, about the presence of entangled tigers. This information was previously obtained from a resident of Marihat Raja Village, Sahala Nadapdap.

"Following up on the report, the North Sumatra KSDA Center through the Regional III Kisaran Conservation Section officers at the KSDA Region II Pematang Siantar Division, at around 15.30 WIB, immediately went to the location to confirm the information in question," said Head of the North Sumatra KSDA Center, Rudianto Saragih Napitu, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 24.

At the location, officers saw directly that the tiger was entangled on the edge of the valley between the oil palm plantations. Evacuation of the tiger was carried out, Monday, October 23.

"The evacuation process runs from 13.00 WIB to 16.00 WIB, until finally the animals were successfully transferred to the cages that had been provided, and immediately received the first medical action from drh. Anhar Lubis," he said.

Seeing the condition of the king of the forest who was weak and injured by a sling snare on his leg, the team decided to take him to Barumun Nagari Wildlife Sanctiary (BNWS) for medical treatment before being released into his habitat.
