Menparekraf Calls Indonesia's Creative Economy Ranked 3rd In The World

CIREBON - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said Indonesia occupies the third position as the country with the best creative economy in the world, after South Korea and the United States. "Our third best creative economy in the world, the second number is the United States and second is South Korea," said Sandiaga during a working visit in Cirebon, West Java, Antara, Sunday, October 8. He explained that there are three sub-sectors that have contributed greatly to the creative economy in Indonesia, namely culinary, craft and fashion. In addition, the domestic music and film industry has the opportunity to become one of the sectors that can develop rapidly over the next few years. "We can get through Korea with a creative economy. There are three main sub-sectors, namely culinary, craft and fashion. But we also hope for music and films," he said. Furthermore, he said that the creative economy could reduce the unemployment rate in Indonesia because it had created 24 million jobs in the sector. Another positive achievement from this sector is to help boost the domestic economy.

"For gross domestic product (GDP) about 8 percent of the contribution from the creative economy, one of the highest. Tourism visits are already above 20 percent of the target upper limit," he said.
