SITUBONDO - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Situbondo Regency, East Java, noted that dozens of residents' houses in Jatisari Village were destroyed by a tornado on Tuesday evening.

Chief Executive of the Situbondo BPBD, Sruwi Hartanto, said that the tornado that came suddenly hit and damaged dozens of residents' houses in several Neighborhood Units (RT) in Camplok Hamlet, Jatisari Village, Arjasa District.

"The tornado occurred towards Tuesday (26/9) evening yesterday, and after receiving information, our officers went directly to the location of the natural disaster and helped clean up the rubble of residents' houses," said Sruwi, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, September 27.

He said that 14 residents' houses were affected by the tornado and the majority suffered minor damage such as damage to the roof of the house (tiles) and the asbestos of the house was broken due to the tornado.

He explained that when the tornado hit Jatisari Village, all the residents immediately ran out of their homes, so there were no casualties, but losses due to the tornado were estimated at tens of millions of rupiah.

"From residents' statements, the tornado came suddenly and residents' houses were slightly damaged and heavily damaged," he said.

He added that BPBD officers' efforts were to coordinate with village government officials and the local Muspika, in order to find out the situation on the ground and the urgent needs of residents.
