Mayor Of Sukabumi: 120 Hectares Of Agricultural Land Threatened With Harvest Failure

Sukabumi Mayor Achmad Fahmi said the long drought that resulted in drought in almost all areas of Sukabumi City, West Java resulted in 120 hectares of agricultural land in danger of crop failure.

"As a result of this drought, agricultural land cannot get sufficient water supply, even some areas no longer have water supply, so the plants that have been planted are threatened with death so that they have the potential to crop failure," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, September 15.

According to Fahmi, from the results of the temporary data collection, there are 120 hectares of agricultural land that have the potential to harvest the majority are rice fields. The land is spread over three sub-districts, namely Baros, Cibeureum and Lembursitu (Bacile) sub-districts.

If one hectare of the land can produce seven tons of milled dry unhulled rice (GKG), then if the harvest fails, Sukabumi City will lose as much as 840 tons of GKG. Of course, the Sukabumi City Government through the Sukabumi Food, Agriculture and Fisheries Security Service (DKP3) Sukabumi City continues to make efforts to prevent the land from failing to harvest.

In addition, his party made an effort by carrying out the Istiqa prayer or prayer asking for rain from Allah which was carried out en masse on Friday, (15/9) in Lapang Merdeka, Sukabumi City.

This activity was not only attended by elements of the Forkopimda (Regional Leadership Coordination Forum) and MUI (Indonesian Ulema Council) Sukabumi City, but was attended by thousands of Muslims.

"In addition to carrying out various ways to anticipate crop failure, we also made efforts by carrying out Istisqa Prayers en masse and inviting all Muslims in Sukabumi City to establish sunnah prayers, both individuals and congregations," he added.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Sukabumi City DKP3, Adrian Hariadi, said that his party was trying to pump water from sources or eyes such as rivers to agricultural land.

However, it is admitted that this pumping is also constrained by water sources, if the land is far from the river, it is certainly difficult to implement.

However, his party will not remain silent in an effort to suppress the area of land that is threatened or has the potential for crop failure. As is known, the three sub-districts, namely Baros, Cibeureum and Lemburs, have always been drought subscriptions during the dry season.
