Semarang City Government Plans To Build New Rusunawa In Mangunharjo

SEMARANG - The Semarang City Government plans to build a new simple rented flat (rusunawa) in the Mangunharjo area, Tugu District, to meet the needs of housing for underprivileged residents.

"We plan to build (the riots) on an area of 5 hectares," said Semarang City Housing and Settlement Service Secretary (Disperkim) Murni Ediati as reported by ANTARA, Monday, September 4.

According to Pipik, his nickname, Rusunawa Mangunharjo in the 5 ha area is designed with seven tower buildings, with each tower having 44 rooms of various types.

"It's like an apartment, yes, there's type 36, there's only one for the family. So, different (room types)," he said.

He said the Semarang City Government had submitted a proposal for the construction of Rusunawa Mangunharjo to the central government, and so far it is still in the land maturation stage.

"We are pushing for Mangunharjo. Commitment to the center, land preparation takes time, between 1-2 years. This year we are still maturating the land," he said.

Currently, the Semarang City Government has built eight flats, namely Rusunawa Plamongansari, Karangroto, Bandarharjo, Pekunden, Kaligawe, Kudu, Jrakah, and Sawah Besar.

"We proposed several more (Customs), but it's still being studied," said Pipik.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Semarang City Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) Kadarlusman emphasized that the retribution of simple rented flats (rusunawa) needs to be brought back in order to increase local revenue.

According to Pilus, as he is familiarly called, the government has built a flat to help the needs of housing for people who are unable to afford it through the rental system.

"Maybe a lot of them think, 'This house belongs to the government and we residents can't afford it. They want 'nek iso not to pay'. There are also those who have such hopes, it's a hassle too," he said.

Even though government facilities for the poor, he said, rusunawa still needed retribution for management and maintenance for the continuity of these facilities.

"The Council encourages it to be brought under control and reaffirmed again. Their obligation as residents of the Rusunawa, yes, must pay (retribution)," he said.
