3 Regional Heads In West Sumatra Resign To Participate In The 2024 Legislative Election

Three regional heads in West Sumatra (West Sumatra), respectively, the Regent of Pasaman, Deputy Regent of Pesisir Selatan and Deputy Regent of Agam resigned from their positions to participate in the 2024 Legislative Election (Pileg). Head of the Government Bureau and Otda Setdarov West Sumatra, Doni Rahmat Samulo, said that the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) had issued a Dismissal Decree for the Deputy Regent of Agam, Irwan Fikri, while the two regional heads were still in process. "The proposal to dismiss the Regent of Pasaman Benny Utama and Deputy Regent of the South Coast Rudi Hariyansyah has been sent by each DPRD and forwarded by the governor to the Minister of Home Affairs. Now it is still in process," he said in Padang, Antara, Thursday, August 31. He said the Deputy Regent of Agam, although he would participate in the 2024 Legislative Election, the reason for resigning was because it was not in line with the regent. The Decree of the Minister of Home Affairs who has been issued has determined that the resignation applies to the Permanent Candidate List (DCT) set by the local KPU. As for the Regent of Pasaman, Benny Utama and the Deputy Regent of Pesisir Selatan, the reason for the resignation is to participate in the Legislative Election. "Deputy Regent Agam will run as a candidate for the West Sumatra Provincial DPRD while the Regent of Pasaman and Deputy Regent of Pesisir Selatan for the DPR RI," he said. Doni explained, if the decision to resign the Regent of Pasaman has been approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Deputy Regent of Pasaman, Sabar AS will be the acting regent (Plt). Then it is processed to become Regent of Pasaman according to applicable regulations.

Meanwhile, for the Deputy Regent of Agam and Deputy Regent of Pesisir Selatan Regency there is no change because his term of office is less than 18 months away. "The two deputy regent positions will be vacant until the definitive regent and deputy regent who have just been inaugurated in 2024," he said.
