Give Understanding About Protected Animals, Pangolins To Be Smuggled Handed Over To The Indonesian-Malaysia Pamtas Task Force

The Yonarmed 10 Brajamusti Border Security Task Force (Satgas Pamtas) thwarted the attempt to smuggle a pangolin.

The smuggling failure was carried out in the Sei Mawang area, Puring Bersar District, Indonesia-Malaysia border, Kapuas Hulu area, West Kalimantan (West Kalimantan).

"The pangolin was secured by soldiers at the house of one of the residents suspected of being smuggled into Malaysia," said the Commander of the Pamtas Yonarmed 10 Task Force Bradjamusti Major Arm Ady Kurniawan in Badau Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan, Tuesday, August 22, which was confiscated by Antara.

Ady said that the apparatus first provided understanding to residents who brought pangolins if the animals were protected and finally handed over voluntarily to the Pamtas Task Force.

Pangolin is known to be a rare animal scattered in Asia, one that is in the territory of Indonesia is the Sundanese pangolin (panis javanica), which is currently in danger of extinction.

According to him, pangolins are a type of mammal that is included in the protected wild species in Indonesia according to Law Number 5 of 1990.

However, he said, hunting and illegal trade are still rampant today, one of the vulnerable areas on the border between Indonesia and Malaysia.

He said the pangolin was secured and handed over to the Natural Resources Conservation Center to be recorded and released into the wild.

"We will tighten the smuggling route, especially on rat roads in border areas to cut off connections between collectors and investors from these illegal activities," said Ady.

Meanwhile, the Putussibau Natural Resources Conservation Center, Adrian Prasetiyo, appreciated the efforts made by Pamtas Task Force personnel.

"We appreciate the hard work of the Yonarmed 10/ Bradjamusti Task Force in finding and thwarting the smuggling of rare pangolins at the border," said Adrian.
