JAKARTA - Online gambling is increasingly troubling the Indonesian people. The spread is getting out of control. The number of victims of online gambling continues to grow. Starting from financial casualties, to ending up being the perpetrators of criminal acts.
The presence of online gambling in the digital world tarnishes the face of the digital world of Indonesia in the midst of digital literacy acceleration programs and the understanding of Indonesian citizens about digital skills.
In order to provide education to the public about the dangers of online gambling, the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) together with Cybercreation held an Obral Discussion on Digital Literacy (OOTD) entitled "Initiate Digital Space: Let's Fight Online Gambling", Saturday 19 August.
This discussion is a form of Kominfo to continue to improve the digital skills of the Indonesian people. Because citizens who are digitally capable will certainly avoid cybercrime acts and public diseases, including online gambling.
"What we have to know about gambling is one of the public's diseases. Long before today, gambling was already there. The problem is, the space has been more open since gambling can be done online. In the past, people had to go somewhere. Now anywhere, people can gamble," explained Oktora Irahadi, Coordinator of the Creative Content Division of Cybercreation.
Of the many victims of online gambling who continue to increase day by day, this community disease is no longer seen as a problem in the community. The Sosilog of the University of Indonesia, Devie Rahmati, said that the current existence of online gambling has even been seen as public entertainment.
"People no longer see gambling as something extraordinary dangerous. In fact, this tends to be used as the easiest and cheapest recreational reason," explained Devie.
Online gambling can clearly damage the morals and mentality of the victims. What is very unfortunate is that the majority of online gamblers are young people, who are the successors of the nation. That is why for the sake of an advanced Indonesia, there is no longer any bargaining about equitable digital literacy to all aspects of Indonesian society.
