JAKARTA - The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) found dangerous cosmetic products circulating in online shops and sales after conducting testing sampling at the BPOM RI Office, Jalan Percetakan Negara, Central Jakarta, Thursday, November 28.

Head of BPOM, Taruna Ikrar emphasized that 55 cosmetic products were found to contain prohibited materials or hazardous materials.

"The findings consist of 35 cosmetic products made based on production contracts, 6 cosmetic products produced and circulated by the cosmetics industry, and 14 imported cosmetic products," Taruna Ikrar told reporters, Thursday, November 28.

According to him, cosmetics is a pharmaceutical preparation that has a risk to health if it does not meet the requirements of safety, benefits, and quality.

"The cosmetic products produced by sampling and testing were found to be positive for containing prohibited ingredients or harmful ingredients for mercury, retinoate acid, hydrokinons, K3 red dyes, K10 red dyes, orange 7 acid dyes, and lead," he said.

Taruna Ikrar further explained that mercury can result in changes in skin tone in the form of black spots (chronosis), allergies, skin irritation, headaches, diarrhea, vomiting, and kidney damage.
