Jokowi Asks The Ministry Of Foreign Affairs To Monitor 1,500 Indonesian Scouts Participating In The 25th World Jamboree In South Korea During Extreme Weather

JAKARTA - A total of 1,500 Indonesian scouters participated in the 25th World Jamboree in South Korea (South Korea) in the midst of extreme weather in the country.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) of South Korea to monitor these activities.

"I have ordered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to our embassy to always monitor, to always monitor," said Jokowi after inaugurating the sports arena in the Indonesia Arena room at the Bung Karno Gelora Complex (GBK), Jakarta, Monday, August 7, which was confiscated by Antara.

According to the President, until now there has been no information stating that extreme weather in South Korea is endangering Indonesian Scouts there until they have to be sent back to the country.

Previously, Foreign Minister (Menlu) Retno Marsudi on a separate occasion said that the Government of the Republic of Indonesia had not planned to attract 1,500 Indonesian scouters who were following the 25th World Jambore in South Korea, which is currently being hit by the hot wave weather phenomenon.

"Not yet. Earlier I made another call. I asked about their plan and so far there was no plan. Hopefully conditions will improve, in the sense that the weather will not get hotter," said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi when met in front of the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Sunday 6 August.

Foreign Minister Retno explained that her party continues to communicate with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) of Seoul who visited Jambore several times, precisely in SaeManGeum, South Korea.

Based on information from the delegation of the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul, as many as 1,500 scouters were in good condition. However, the event faces the challenge of hot weather from time to time.

Chairman of the Indonesian Scout Movement Contingent for the 25th World Jambore in South Korea Major General TNI Marines (Ret.) Yuniar Ludfi in a statement Monday today also said that the world's Jamboree is still a safe limit to be followed even though extreme hot weather hit the country.

"We convey directly by visiting units scattered throughout the camp area. We are always intensely coordinating with the Indonesian Embassy, the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports, and related ministries/institutions," said Yuniar.
