Grateful Panji Gumilang Suspect, West Java MUI: Hopefully The Legal Process Will Run Smoothly

The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of West Java Province (Jabar) hopes that the legal process against the leaders of the Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School, Indramayu Regency, Panji Gumilang, will run smoothly and conducively. "We from the West Java MUI feel grateful. We hope that the next process will run smoothly. Then we will continue to strive to make this conducive," said the General Secretary of the West Java MUI, Rafani Achyar in Bandung, Antara, Wednesday, August 2. West Java MUI appreciates the decision of Bareskrim Polri which has named the Al-Zaytun Panji Gumilang Islamic Boarding School leader as a suspect on suspicion of blasphemy. "We hope that the legal process will continue with the Panji case after this determination can run smoothly," he said. He also asked all parties to jointly maintain conduciveness, by not intervening during the legal process. "We will provide understanding to the public so that they do not take actions that cause confusion in the process of handling Panji Gumilang's law," he said He said that after the determination of the suspect against Panji Gumilang, this could reduce public unrest, which had been emotional about the controversial statements from Panji Gumilang. Because it can be ascertained, said Rafani, that there will be no more recordings of images suspected of being related to heretical teachings carried out by the head of the Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School. "Our hope is that after Panji is determined (as a suspect). At least, no longer deliver controversial statements that cause a commotion, ” he said. Rafani said that since the beginning of the West Java MUI, he was optimistic that Panji Gumilang would be made a suspect by law enforcement officials, along with the many incriminating evidence for Panji's actions which he considered to contain elements of blasphemy.

"Meanwhile, the law enforcement process is not arbitrary. Thank God, we also appreciate Bareskrim, the National Police Chief for determining the suspect," he said.
