MANOKWARI - The Provincial Government (Pemrov) of West Papua is preparing to build a regional library with a mini museum concept which is planned to be located in Manokwari.
Head of the West Papua Archives and Library Service Barnabas Dowansiba said the library would later store all archives and documents related to the history of West Papua's formation.
"The library has the role of literacy as well as a mini museum. Now it is not only talking about books, but documents that have historical value," he said in Manokwari, West Papua, Tuesday, July 1, which was confiscated by Antara.
According to him, the library will be equipped with infrastructure based on digital libraries. For hungry visitors, there is also a small and medium micro enterprise booth (MSMEs).
In addition, he continued, there are locations for storing traditional clothing from seven districts in West Papua, namely Manokwari, South Manokwari, Arfak Mountains, Bintuni Bay, Wondama Bay, Kaimana, and Fakfak.
"The library is now multidimensional. The big concept is to become a mini museum. All original works of Papuans need to be preserved," said Dowansiba.
Currently, he said, there are two lands that are options for the construction of a library with a mini museum concept with an area of one hectare and more one hectare each.
The two lands were first studied by the provincial government technical team, so that the construction of the library provides value benefits for the people of West Papua.
"The location must be studied first, both from a strategic point of view, land legality, prices, and others," said Dowansiba.

He explained the budget allocation for the construction of the library, through the physical special allocation fund (DAK) from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek).
Thus, the provincial government will immediately follow up with reports if all library development land studies are completed.
"We have coordinated with the ministry, in this case the Directorate General of Assets. After the study is complete, we will report it to the governor, proceed to the ministry," he said.
According to him, local governments are committed to preserving all cultural values and history of indigenous Papuans, with the aim of not being eroded by the development of the digitalization era.
The construction of a library with a mini museum concept is a form of commitment from the regional government, so that the younger generation of Papua can find out about history comprehensively.
"If it is not preserved from now on, future generations will not know the history and artwork of indigenous Papuans," said Dowansiba.
