KPK Dirdik Brigadier General Asep Guntur Resigns, Alexander Marwata: Final Decision In Leadership

Brigadier General Asep Guntur Rahayu is welcome to submit a letter of resignation as Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution and Director of Investigation of the KPK. However, the decision will be taken by the leadership.

This was conveyed by KPK Deputy Chairman Alexander Marwata in response to Asep's intention to resign from his position. The move was triggered by a hand arrest operation (OTT) of the National SAR Agency (Basarnas) and the appointment of the Head of Basarnas Marshal Henri Alfiandi as a suspect with a polemic.

"Earlier, we have conveyed that please submit a letter of resignation but it is our right to accept or reject," Alexander told reporters at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Monday, July 31.

"Anyone can resign but the final decision will be in the leadership," he continued.

Alexander also talked about Asep's absence from the press conference today, Monday, July 31. He said he was on duty not because he had resigned.

"Formally, the person concerned is still the Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution and and the Director of Investigation until this afternoon," he said.

Previously, the TNI Puspom expressed objections when the KPK named Henri together with the Kabasarnas Administrative Coordinator (Koorsmin) Lt. Col. Afri Budi Cahyanto as a suspect. This step is considered to have violated military regulations.

Furthermore, Deputy Chairperson of the KPK Johanis Tanak apologized for the determination. He said investigators and investigators made a mistake.

In the aftermath of the apology, Asep later stated that he would resign. He said the official letter would be submitted on Monday, July 31.

"As my responsibility as Director of Investigation and Acting. Deputy for Enforcement, I hereby submit my resignation because I am unable to carry out the mandate as Director of Investigation and Acting Deputy for Enforcement. I will convey the official letter on Monday," Asep said in a short message sent internally quoted Friday, July 28.

"What I and my fellow investigators, investigators and public prosecutors do is solely in a series of law enforcement to eradicate corruption," he continued.
