10 Earthquakes Fall In 6 Hours, Activities Of Mount Karangetang Tend To Decrease

SULUT - Earthquake activity in Karangetang Volcano avalanches tends to decline. This is based on the latest observations of mountain activity in North Sulawesi (Sulut).

"Indeed, currently, Mount Karangetang is visually covered in fog, lava avalanche activity is often not visible," said Head of the Karangetang Volcano Observation Post (PGA), Yudia P Tatipang in Manado, Wednesday, July 26, confiscated by Antara.

Yudia explained that based on observations of six hours starting at 00.00-06.00 WITA today, Wednesday, July 26, the avalanche earthquake in Karangetang was 10 times.

The frequency of this earthquake has decreased relatively compared to the six-hour period the day before, the period at 06.00-12.00 WITA was 51 avalanches and the period at 12.00-18.00 WITA was 40 avalanches.

"Indeed, typical from Mount Karangetang sometimes in a week decreases (the earthquake of avalanches), the following week it will increase again," he said.

Although it shows a tendency to frequent earthquake avalanches, residents are expected to adhere to the hazard radius recommended by the Geological Agency.

For example, not approaching, not climbing and not doing activities within the hazard forecast zone, namely a radius of 2.5 kilometers from the crater peak of two (northern areas) and the main crater (south) as well as a sectoral expansion area to the southwest and southeast as far as 3.5 kilometers.

"Let's remain careful, especially since the status of Mount Karangetang is still on standby level III," he said.

The current potential threat is the occurrence of hot clouds of avalanches due to the accumulation of materials on the peak or slopes and floods of volcanic material during the rainy season.
